The Long and Wining Road

There!

I get to use the headline I had wanted to use originally for my story about local wineries! ("Grapes of Rapture" is not bad.... but I thought "Long and Wining Road" was better.)

Oenophiles with a car would be wise to check out a few of these places. (I really liked Cameron Stark's "Big O" wine at Unionville. And Revolutionary Red was also excellent -- and really well priced!)

But schlubs like me with neither a car or a driver's license are probably out of luck. Almost none of these wineries are accessible via public transportation. (I got there because I went with publicists or photographers who could drive.)

For those who are looking for something a little more accessible, Millbrook Winery, which has a shuttle from the train on the weekends. (I wrote about them here.) Or I would also recommend an afternoon either at Brooklyn Winery or Brooklyn Oenology (both of which I wrote about here.)

Happy drinkin'. (If you go, go with a designated driver!)

HO-HO-Hooch!

One of the good parts about being a journalist is that they'll sometimes send you out to a story to drink your fool head off.

Witness the video above. And the accompanying story.

(Also, credit where credit is due: I admit that New Cork City is a better headline than the one I suggested - Ho ho hooch!)

Something else to wine about...

Another Max Gross video on the NY Post's web site about Kosher wine.

Q: What's the definition of a classic Jewish wine?

A: "Harry, I want to go to Florida!"

I've been using that joke for a week now -- ever since I started reporting my piece about kosher wines. (In fact, I tried to use it as the lede for the article.)

Middling results. But that's what you get when you tell a middling joke. (That's the kind of joke that's impossible to tell in writing. You'd kill it if you wrote out "whine"... and it's a little unfair to write "wine." And, also, I do the actual whine pretty well in person.)

But if anybody knows a wine joke out there, I'm game to hear it.
