Elaine Sciolino (author of the truly wonderful book about Iran, Persian Mirrors) has a magnificent piece in today's Times about the savage food critic, Francois Simon, who is apparently the basis for Anton Ego in Ratatouille (although, not really) and who might or might not be responsible for the suicide of a chef whose food he took to task (probably more complicated than that).My favorite was a line he had praising a dish: It was "better than cocaine."
