Does Mathieu Palombino deserve two stars?

The short answer is no, he doesn't.

The longer answer is: No, he doesn't. But he certainly does if Sam Sifton is correct that Palombino serves the best pizza in the city.

Now, I happen to disagree with Sifton's premise. Motorino is not the best pizza in the city. I'd rank it amongst the top 10, but I don't think it quite merits quite so grand a pronouncement. (That might be a matter of individual taste. And part of gripe with the place is just how damned trendy it is.)

But Palombino is right when he says that if he's turning out the best pizza in the city, he deserves at least two stars. And why shouldn't pizza qualify for three?

This is a plausible case of pizza discrimination.
