The cult of Heath

In a phone conversation this morning with my father he said, "I think that Heath Ledger is going to become a cult. Like Che Guevara. You're going to see his face on t-shirts. People are going to say that he died for his art."

There might be something to this...

Before we broke up, my ex said that she believed that Ledger got so into the role of the Joker (that it was such an intense performance, yada yada) that it killed him. I'm willing to bet we'll hear more of the same.

I have to admit, I sort of liked Heath Ledger. I went into Brokeback Mountain kicking and screaming and while I didn't think it was a great movie, I thought he gave an excellent performance. And I was sort of looking forward to The Dark Knight, which had a really terrific trailer.

I've got a feeling, however, that it's going to be massively disappointing. David Edelstein says that his performance is all over the place. And that the movie needed serious editing.

Nevertheless, when you see the Joker on some kid's t-shirt in 10 years just remember: You heard it here first!
